California Style Flank Steak

Recipe Introduction
Chili and five-spice powders give this grilled steak a definite kick. Serve it with grilled onions or wrap it up in a tortilla.
List of Ingredients
- 4 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 (1 1/2 lbs each) flank or top round steaks
- 2 T chili powder
- 2 tsp five-spice powder
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp freshly ground pepper
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- grilled onions, optional
Instructions
- Chop garlic with 1 tsp salt on board; press with side of large knife to form a paste. Divide and rub paste on both sides of steaks.
- For the spice rub, combine chili powder, five-spice powder, 2 tsp salt, sugar, pepper and ginger in a small bowl. Divide and pat onto both sides of steak. Place steaks in a large resealable storage bag and seal; marinate steaks in the refrigerator 2 hours.
- Oil and heat grill. Grill steaks over medium-hot heat, 9 minutes per side for medium-rare (145 degrees). Serve with grilled onions, if desired.
