Grilled Thai Beef Salad

Salads that combine hot meats and cool vegetables are a staple in Thai cuisine. This salad is a traditional dish in northeastern Thailand.
List of Ingredients
- DRESSING:
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon peanut sauce
- 1 teaspoon sambal oelek or chili paste
- SALAD:
- 2 lb. beef sirloin steak (1/2 inch thick)
- 8 cups sliced Napa cabbage
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh Thai basil
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup chopped peanuts
Instructions
- Heat grill. In medium bowl, whisk together all dressing ingredients.
- Place steak on gas grill over medium heat or on charcoal grill 4 to 6 inches from medium coals; cover grill. Grill 10 minutes for medium rare or until of desired doneness, turning once. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing.
- Meanwhile, in large bowl, toss together cabbage, onion, cilantro, basil and sesame seeds.
- Thinly slice steak across the grain; place on salad. Drizzle with dressing; sprinkle with peanuts.
