    Recipe Introduction

Posted by: plumcrazy_alta ********These are our favorites and will rise quite high due to the yeast and baking powder.

    List of Ingredients

1 Tbsp. yeast, not instant(use the kind you have to proof)
    1 Tsp. sugar
    2c. buttermilk
    4 Tbsp. sugar
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2c. warm, water
    1 c. margarine or shortening
    5 c. flour
    1 Tbsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt

    Recipe

Combine yeast, water and 1 tsp. sugar and let rise 10 minutes. Combine dry ingredients and cut shortening in like you do for pie dough. Stir in buttermilk and risen yeast. Mix just enough to hold dough together. Chill slightly. Roll out on a lightly floured surface. Cut with a glass then bake or freeze on a cookie sheet and put in bags when frozen. If frozen let thaw before baking. Cheese may be added. I baking, biscuits are usually baked at 425 or 450. At 425, bake about 12-15 mins. & at 450. about 10-12. Just watch them closely after 10 mins. since recipes vary.
I bake my biscuits at 350. Be careful not to get them too brown either.

If you let these rise for quite awhile they will get really fluffy. They have an awesome sweet kind of taste.

They are best with real buttermilk
