List of Ingredients
1/2 cup soft shortening
2 TB. sugar
1 egg
1 cup dark molasses
1 cup boiling water
2 1/4 cups Gold Medal Flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp.ginger
1 tsp.cinnamon
Recipe
Heat oven to 325º(slow mod.). Grease and flour square pan,9x9x1 3/4" or 9" ring mold. Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar ,egg.Blend in molasses and water.Measure flour by dip- level-pour method or by sifting.Stir together dry ingredients; blend in. Beat until smooth. Pour into pan. Bake 45 to 50 minutes in square pan,45 to 50 min.in ring mold. Serve hot cut in squares or wedges with sweetened whipped cream or applesauce. 9 servings.

Soften cream cheese with a little cream.Beat until fluffy. Split each serving of Favorite Gingerbread, spoon cheese between layers. Top with more cheese. Serve with Old -fashioned lemon sauce.
Old-fashioned Lemon Sauce
Combine in saucepan 1/2 cup butter,1 cup sugar,1/4 cup water, 1 egg, well beaten,3 TB. lemon juice(1 lemon)and grated rind of 1 lemon. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly,just until mixture comes to a boil. Makes 1 1/3 cups
