    Comments: The frosting is the best part of this cake. I like to use real butter in the frosting.

    Ingredients:
    1 (4 oz.) German sweet chocolate
    1/2 cup water
    2 cup flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1 cup Crisco (butter flavored)
    2 cup sugar
    4 egg yolks
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 cup buttermilk
    4 egg whites (beaten stiffly)

    Frosting:
    12 oz. can evaporated milk
    4 egg yokes, beaten
    1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    1-1/2 cup sugar
    3/4 cup butter
    2-2/3 cup coconut (7 oz. pkg.)
    1-1/2 cup pecans, chopped

    Recipe



    350 oven. Line bottom of 3-9" pans with wax paper (cut to fit)
    Beat egg whites, till stiff.
    Melt chocolate & water in microwave, set aside
    Mix dry ing. set aside
    Beat Crisco & sugar until light & fluffy.
    Add egg yolk, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in melted chocolate & vanilla.
    Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition.
    Gently stir in egg whites.
    Pour batter into prepared pans
    Bake 30 min.
    Cool on wire racks 10 min. then take out of pans
    Cool completely

    Frosting:
    Combine milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter & vanilla in saucepan. Cook about 12 min. Remove from heat. Stir in coconut & pecan. Cool to room temperature & of spreading consistency
