    Recipe Introduction

Posted by: Joni6000**********This is absolutely unique and outstanding.... It's an old time hungarian favorite 10 layer torte. It goes back many years. It's rich so a little sliver is all one needs. Fabulous!

    List of Ingredients

    8 egg yolks
    1 tsp. vanilla
    8 egg whites
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 cup cake flour (sifted)
    1 more 1/2 cup sugar

    Recipe

Beat egg yolks and vanilla until thick and lemon colored. Beat egg whites until foamy. Add cream of tartar and beat until stiff. Beat in 1/2 cup sugar gradually. Fold yellows into whites. Fold sifted four and remaining sugar in gradually. Spread batter to just barely cover bottom of 3 or 4 (9) inch greased, waxed papered and greased again pans. Bake in hot oven 450 degrees for about 7 minutes or until delicately browned. *I don't use wax paper, I just grease and lightly flour, but that's what the recipe originally called for. You may find it easier to remove cake by using the wax paper (at least your first time making it) Repeat until all layers are baked. I get 10 layers because I use jumbo eggs... but many get 9. You have to watch as they bake, because they brown real fast.

    FILLING (Delicious)

    8 eggs
    2 cups of confectioner's sugar
3 sq. Hershey's Bitter Chocolate (melt)
1 lb. sweet butter, whipped (you can buy it that way)
    1 tsp. vanilla

Put eggs, confectioner's sugar and chocolate in top of double boiler. Stir vigorously and steady until smooth and thickened. Cream butter and add to cooled mixture and vanilla. Mix together well and put between layers and on sides of cake.

I do the filling first. Then I do the cake while the filling is cooling waiting for the sweet butter and vanilla to be added. By the time I get the cakes all baked, the filling is ready to add the butter and apply to all the layers. This cake is delicious. I only make it once a year because it's quite time-consuming. My daughter must have it every year for her birthday.
