    Recipe Introduction

    List of Ingredients

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
    2 cups packed brown sugar
    2 eggs
    2 tsp. vanilla extract
    3 cups quick-cooking oats
    2-1/2 cups all purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp milk (Dee suggested adding this)

    Fudge Filling
1-14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups (12 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. vanilla extract
    1 cup chopped walnuts

    Recipe

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, mix well. Combine oats, flour, baking soda and salt; add to the creamed mixture. Spread 2/3's in the bottom of an ungreased 9X13 baking pan; set aside.

For filling, heat milk, chocolate chips, butter and salt in a sauce pan or microwave safe bowl until melted. Remove from the heat, stir in vanilla and walnuts. Spread over oat mixture in pan. Drop remaining oat mixture by tablespoonfuls over chocolate. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.

    CHANGES:

Dee suggested adding 2 Tbsps of Milk to the "crust" recipe and it worked out just fine. She felt that it would make a softer crust, which it did.

Dee also suggested making it in a jelly roll pan instead of a 9x13 size as she felt that the bars turned out more like a "cake" in the smaller pan. I DID use a jelly roll pan, baked them for 20 minutes and they turned out perfect and it makes twice as much that way! LOL
