    Recipe Introduction

Posted by: CountryCook_IA*********I think I've found my perfect cookie-finally! I've been on a quest and have tried so many it is just not funny anymore. Anyway, here is what I've found and I've made a few changes to the original to make it more chewier, flatter, and perfect. The original is from Betty Crocker but found that it was too dry after one day of storage--this stays fresher longer.

    List of Ingredients

    1-1/4 c. white sugar
    1-1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 c. shortening
    1/2 c. butter (chilled - don't melt it!)
    1 T. vanilla
    2 eggs
    4 c. flour
    2 t. baking soda
    1 t. salt
1-1/2 c. chocolate chips (my favorite is Reese's Pieces)

    Recipe

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat sugars, butter, shortening, vanilla, and eggs. Stir in soda, flour, salt, and chips. The butter needs to be chilled and not melted so that it can keep it's form when you roll it into a ball. Roll in tablespoon-sized balls and placed on ungreased cookie sheet (I prefer dark cookie sheets). Bake for approximately 12-15 minutes. Because oven temperatures vary, start on the lowest temp and work your way up to how you want the cookies to look like when they are removed from the oven and cooled. Mine took about 13 minutes to get the slightly brown on the bottom, crispy rim, and chewy inside.

They sat out all day (I baked them around lunch time) and they were still nice and chewy--yummy

I used heaping tablespoonfuls, too. They were rolled to about the size of walnuts, so they are bigger cookies. If you are going for the smaller cookies, adjust your cooking time to less than 12 minutes.
