    List of Ingredients




    ¼ cup soft shortening
    ½ cup sugar
    1 egg
    ½ cup molasses
    1 teaspoon soda
    ½ cup hot water
    2 cups flour
    ½ teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon ginger
    ½ teaspoon nutmeg
    ½ teaspoon cloves
    ½ teaspoon cinnamon

    Recipe



    Cream shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Dissolve soda in water and stir in. Combine flour, salt and spices and add. Chill. Drop on greased sheets. Bake at 400º for 7-8 minutes. While warm frost with vanilla powdered sugar icing.
    These were one of my favorite cookies, both because of the ginger flavor and the frosting
