    Bread Dough Ornaments - Not-Edible

    Mix 1 slice white bread with no crust and 1 T. white glue.Keep wrapped.Mix assorted acrylic paints into separate piles of dough.This takes awhile to mix.For white dough you must use white paint.Flatten with a rolling pin.Shape into forms or use cookie cutters.Brush 1 T. glue mixed with 1 T. water over shapes.Stick wire into dough and let set at least 2 hours.Lin_65

    2 cups flour
    1 cup salt
    1 cup water
    Mix and knead into ball of dough.Line cookie sheet with foil to prevent sticking.Make ornaments free style or use cookie cutters.Straighten paper clips into "S" formations and cut in two or use already made ornament hangers.Insert before baking.Bake @350º 1 hour or until golden brown.Cool.Decorate to taste, paint, glitter, sequins.For better preservation, spray with clear varnish, etc.Lin_65

    Bread Dough Christmas Ornaments

    1-1/2 cups salt
    4 cups flour
    Cookie cutters
    1-1/3 cups warm water
    Acrylic paints
    Dissolve salt in warm water and mix with flour.Roll dough on floured board.Use cookie cutters to make designs (Santa, trees, etc.).Bake @300º until hard.Paint.If natural dough color is desired, brush dough with a beaten egg before baking.Spray one side at a time with clear acrylic.Ideal for Christmas decorations.Lin_65

    Cinnamon Christmas Ornaments

    3/4-1 cup applesauce
    4.12 oz. bottle ground cinnamon
    Mix applesauce and cinnamon together to form a stiff dough.Roll to 1/4" thickness.Cut with cookie cutters. Make a hole for ribbon.Carefully place on rack to dry.Let air dry several days, turning occasionally.If you prefer they may be baked @150º 5-6 hours.Lin_65

    Cinnamon Christmas Ornaments

    1 cup applesauce
    1-1/2 cups cinnamon
    1-2 tsp. oil

    Mix well with hands.Knead and roll out to about 1/2" thickness.Cut shapes with cookie cutters.Poke hole on top with straw.Dry flat 2 days, turning 3-4 times.Makes about 25 (3") ornaments.Lin_65

    Clay Recipe for Christmas Ornaments

    4 cups flour
    1 cup salt
    1 tsp. powdered alum
    1-1/2 cups water
    Mix well in large bowl.If dough is too dry, work in another tablespoon of water with your hands.Dough can be rolled or molded and can be colored with a few drops of food coloring.
    To roll: Roll dough 1/8" thick on lightly floured board.Cut with cookie cutters dipped in flour.Insert wire or make hole in top about 1/4" down for hanging.
    To mold: Shape dough no more than 1/2" thick.Prepare to hang.Bake ornaments on ungreased cookie sheet 30 minutes @250º. Turn and bake another 1-1/2 hours until hard and dry.Remove and cool.When cold, paint and seal.May need to lightly sand before painting.Lin_65

    Homemade Ornaments Recipe

    2 cups salt
    2 cups flour
    1 cup water
    Mix together, form into objects of your choice, cookie cutters work best.Hooks can be paper clips, should be inserted while objects are soft.Bake @250º until hard, 2 hours. Cool, paint and coat with liquid plastic.(Good project for kids.) Lin_65


    Homemade Clay Christmas Ornaments

    2 cups baking soda
    1 cup cornstarch
    1-1/4 cups cold water
    Mix soda and cornstarch together, blending well.Add cold water, mix well until smooth.Boil 1 minute until it has consistency of moist mashed potatoes.Stir constantly.Spoon onto a plate.Cover with damp cloth, allow to cool.Knead dough, roll out on waxed paper.Cut out designs with cutters or shape by hand.Let dry until hard, 1-2 days.Paint ornaments with Tempra or water colors.Dry well, coat with clear shellac or clear nail polish. Hangers may be mounted on back with glue, or pressed into dough before it dries.Lin_65

    Homemade Clay Ornaments

    1 cup cornstarch
    1 lb. box baking soda
    1-1/2 cup water
    1/3 cup cinnamon
    In large pan, mix cornstarch, soda, gradually add water.Cook over low heat, stir occasionally.The mixture will get bubbly, then thicken.Stir constantly until mixture forms a ball.Remove from heat and turn clay onto plastic wrap or foil.It will thicken more after being removed from the heat and be cool enough to handle within a few minutes.Knead in cinnamon.
    To make ornaments, tape waxed paper to work surface.Roll clay about 1/4" thick.Use cookie cutters to make shapes.Poke a hole for a hanger with toothpick.The ornaments may take from a few hours to a day to air dry.
    To speed up drying, place ornaments on baking sheet, bake @300º 30 minutes.Shut off oven and let cool for one hour.Continue air drying until ornaments harden.Refrigerate or freeze unused clay.Thaw at room temperature and then knead.Lin_65

    Non-Edible "Gingerbread Ornaments"

    1 cup applesauce
    3/4 cup cinnamon
    2 T. cloves
    1 T. allspice
    Mix thoroughly.Roll 1/4" thick - no less.Cut with cookie cutters and cut hole out for hanger.Lay on foil on cookie sheets.Allow to air dry a few days.Can turn them over after they have dried for a couple of days, but carefully, they're very fragile.Lin_65


    Cinnamon Ornaments (Non-Edible)

    3/4 cup ground cinnamon
    1 T. allspice
    2 T. ground cloves
    1 T. ground nutmeg
    1 cup applesauce
    Combine all spices, blend.Mix with applesauce.Knead until smooth.Sprinkle with cinnamon, roll to desired thickness.Cut shapes with cutters, attach string, if desired for hanging.Put on waxed paper to dry 5-7 days.Turn over periodically.Store in tins or sealed jars.Lin_65
