    Makes 22 large slices


    3 cups all purpose flour
    1/2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 cup dutch processed cocoa
    1/4 tsp salt
    1 1/2 cups sweet butter or margarine, softened
    3 cups granulated sugar
    5 large eggs
    1 1/4 cups milk
    1 tsp vanilla extract

    Recipe



    Do not preheat the oven. Grease and flour a 12 cup tube pan.
    Sift together the flour, baking powder, cocoa and salt. Set aside.
    In a large mixing bowl, beat the margarine and sugar on low speed until fluffy, about 8-9 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk. After each addition, scrape the bowl with a spatula so that all the ingredients are well distributed. Beat in the vanilla extract.
    Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Place the pan in a cold oven and set the oven temperature to 325º. Bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for at least 1 hour before removing to a cake rack to cool for at least 3 hours longer.
