List of Ingredients
1/2 lb. butter or margarine
1/2 c. Crisco
3 c. cake flour, 3 c. all purpose minus 6 tbsp.
3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
5 eggs
1 c. milk
1 tsp. each: lemon extract, rum extract, coconut extract, almond extract, and vanilla extract
Recipe
Cream butter and Crisco together. Sift flour, sugar and baking powder together. Set aside. Add eggs and milk to butter and Crisco. Mix well. Add dry ingredients to mixture. Mix well. Add flavorings last. Bake in a greased and floured tube pan in a preheated 325 degree oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cool in pan 15 minutes. Invert onto serving plate and cool completely.
I have been making this cake since 1975. It is my daughter's favorite pound cake. My recipe calls for 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp lemon flavoring, 1 tsp butter flavoring, 1 tsp coconut flavoring, 1/4 tsp rum, orange, or almond flavoring.
This is the optional glaze:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 tsp of each of the flavoring used in the cake
Bring to a boil until sugar is dissolved. Spoon slowly over hot cake in the pan. Let stand until cake is cool.
