    List of Ingredients




    Makes 18 thick slices


    2 cups all-purpose flour
    2 tsp baking powder
    1 cup sweet butter ( do not substitute margarine), softened
    1 2/3 cups granulated sugar
    5 large eggs
    1/3 cup milk
    1 tsp pure almond extract

    Recipe



    Do not preheat the oven. Grease and flour a 10 cup tube pan.
    Sift together the flour and baking powder and set aside.
    In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. beat in 1 egg. alternately add the flour mixture and milk, beating well after each addition. Beat in the remaining 4 eggs and the extract.
    Pour the batter into the prepared pan and place it in a cold oven. Set the oven temperature to 325º and bake the cake for 1 hour, or until a cake tester inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about an hour before placing it on a cake rack. Cool for 3 hours before serving.
