    Long beating makes this recipe light and fluffy and is a perfect mate for Red Velvet Cake and the Milk Chocolate Layer Cake.


    List of Ingredients




    2 cups milk
    3/8 cup flour
    2 cups unsalted butter, cold
    2 cups sugar (granulated)
    2 tsp. vanilla

    Recipe



    Whisk to combine in a heavy-bottomed pan the milk and flour. Stir constantly over medium-high heat until smooth and thick, 12-18 minutes. Let mixture cool 30 minutes. Remove the "skin" that has formed on top and discard. While cooling, use medium-high speed to beat the butter and sugar until quite fluffy, 4-5 minutes. Add in vanilla. Add the cooled, cooked mixture one-third at a time, beating well after each addition. Makes enough to frost a 2-3 layer cake.
