    List of Ingredients

you could use flour and butter to thicken liquid and it won't lump up?

I didn't. According to Ina Garten, this works. She said to take approx. one tablespoon of butter, add the amount of flour needed to thicken your stew. Mash the flour into the butter, gather it up into a ball shape, and drop it into the boiling pot. She says it will thicken and not lump.

This certainly would be easier than mixing flour with water and stirring forever to prevent lumps.

Chefly I couldn't figure it out but watched her do it today. I have melted the butter before and made a roux...but she didn't melt it...just smashed the flour into the slab of butter with a fork...rolled it up with the fork and dumped it into the pot of boiling liquid...didn't even bother to stir it. It was a very quick process
