    List of Ingredients




    Sift together:
    3 cups flour
    1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1-teaspoon salt

    Combine in a bowl:
    1 pound chopped pitted dates
    4 ounces glazed cherries
    1 cup chopped walnuts
    1 cup chopped pecans
    Add one third of the dry ingredients and mix well.

    Beat together
    1-cup butter,
    1-3/4 cups sugar until light.
    Add 3 eggs beating after each

    Add remaining dry ingredients alternating with
    1-cup buttermilk
    1 tablespoon orange juice
    1-teaspoon vanilla

    Blend well after each addition.
    Stir in fruit mixture and mix well.

    Turn into greased loaf pans. Fill pans ¾ full (makes four loaves)
    Bake 350º for one hour and twenty minutes.

    In a saucepan combine
    1 cup orange juice
    1-cup sugar
    Grated rind of one orange
    Bring to a boil. Remove from heat
    Add 1 cup flaked coconut, stir.
    Pour this over the warm cakes.

    A co-worker gave this recipe to me over 35 years ago.
