    Posted by: kathyf

    List of Ingredients

    1 cup crisco shortening
    4 cups flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 cup sugar
    4 tbls milk
    1 1/2 tsp vanilla
    1 tsp baking soda

    Recipe

    Preheat oven to 400

In a bowl cut shortening into flour as if making pie crust. Add salt. In second bowl, combine eggs and sugar; beat well. Add milk and vanilla; then baking soda. Add wet mixture into dry mixture a bit at a time and mix just until you can form a ball. Roll out (not too thin or they will be crispy!)Cut into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 7-9 minutes or just until barely golden on bottom. Remove to wire racks to cool. Then frost and decorate.

    FROSTING

1/3 cup butter, softened (gram insisted on butter only)
    4 cups confectioners sugar
    1/4 tsp salt
    2 - 3 tbls milk
    1 1/2 tsp vanilla

In large bowl, cream butter then add remaining ingredients. Beat until frosting is smooth and spreadable. (We divide the frosting into a few bowls to make different colors like green and red for christmas with food coloring) Frost then decorate with colored sugars.
