    Recipe Introduction

Betty Crocker makes a packaged potato in this flavor, which I like. I have since made this recipe, and it's delicious! I will post the original recipe, and then the changes I made

    List of Ingredients

    1/4 c butter or margarine
    1 T flour
    salt and pepper to taste
    2 c milk
2 lbs potatoes, prepared and sliced*
1 2-oz jar Real Bacon Pieces
    1 c shredded cheddar cheese
    1/2 c butter bread crumbs

    Recipe

    1. Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture is bubbly; remove from heat. Stir in milk; heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute.

    2. In 1 1/2 to 2 quart casserole, layer half of potatoes half of bacon pieces, and 1/4 c cheese. Repeat layers. Pour sauce over potatoes. Bake at 350-degrees 45 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and buttered bread crumbs. Bake an additional 15 minutes.

Anytime I need a white sauce, I prepare it as follows. This eliminates the melting of the butter, and all of the other steps to keep it from getting lumpy.

For the sauce mixture, I put all of the ingredients in the blender (butter (no need to melt), flour, salt, pepper, milk). I blend until throughly mixed and smooth. Then, just pour into saucepan and bring to boil, and continue with directions.

I used a 2-lb package of frozen hash brown potatoes (the cubed Southern-style).
