    OLD-FASHIONED BAKED CUSTARD

    Source of Recipe

    Recipe Introduction

    Posted by: deedal_ON

    List of Ingredients

    4 large Eggs
    l/3 cup liquid honey
2-1/2 cups whole milk (or 1 sm tin undiluted Carnation (6 oz) and 2% milk to make 2-1/2 cups)
    l/2 tsp pure Vanilla
    sprinkling of nutmeg(optional)

    Recipe

In oven-proof baking dish, beat eggs lightly with a fork just enough to mix.
    - Mix in the honey
    - Add cold milk and vanilla
    - Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg
    - Place in oven in another pan containing about l to l-1/2 inches of hot water.
    - Bake at 375º F until custard is set (when knife inserted near centre comes out clean). DO NOT OVERCOOK
    - Remove from oven
    - Place both baking dish and outer dish in sink and run cold water in corner of outer dish for about 30 minutes to cool the custard quickly (eggs continue cooking while they are hot). Refrigerate till ready to serve
    - Custard should be satiny smooth.
NOTE: A bit of maple syrup poured on individual servings is, in my opinion, better than crème caramel (and a lot simpler to make).
