Spritely Apples Almondine

2 packages crescent rolls
2 Granny Smith apples
8 ounces margarine
2 cups Splenda, divided
1 teaspoon cinnamon,divided
1 teaspoon almond extract
10-oz. Diet Sprite
1/2 cup sliced almonds

Recipe
Peel apple and slice into 8 sections. Separate crescent rolls and roll 1 apple slice in each. Pinch seams together. Place point side down in a 9x13-inch buttered or sprayed baking dish. Melt margarine, add 1 1/2 cups of Splenda, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, almond extract, and Diet Sprite. Stir well and pour over rolls. Combine remaining 1/2 cup of Splenda and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and sprinkle on top. Sprinkle with sliced almonds. Bake at 375° for 35 to 40 minutes, or until well browned.
Serve warm with a little ice cream on top. If you want Almond Ice Cream, slightly soften 1 pint of sugar free vanilla ice cream. Stir in 3/4 teaspoon of almond extract. Refreeze until firm. Serve on top of the warm Apple Dessert. Sprinkle each serving with 1 or 2 teaspoons of toasted sliced almonds.
