    Recipe Introduction

    Makes 2 crusts. Enough for 1 double crust pie.

    List of Ingredients

    2 ¼ cups flour
    1 t. salt
    1/3 cup cold shortening
    1/3 cup cold butter, diced
    About 1/3 cup cold water
    1 t. sugar if making a fruit pie

    Recipe

    Combine flour and salt, and sugar if using it. Add butter and shortening and cut into the flour mixture until crumbs are the size of peas. Add water slowly until it starts to clump together. It should be moist but not sticky. Form into a ball (try not to work with it too much) and flatten into a disc. Cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 min. Roll out on floured board or counter.
