    1920s/30s Prize Winning Cake

    List of Ingredients

    "The Prize winning chocolate cake Mother entered in
    a contest when I was in grade school and won an electric mixer for 1st prize over the whole state of Colorado." The filling is like the German Chocolate Cake now without the coconut. My mother was born in 1915 so I imagine she entered the contest in the late 20s or in the 1930's."

    Prize Winning Chocolate Cake

    1 1/2 C. sugar
    1/2 C.butter
    3 eggs
    3/4 C. milk
    2 squares chocolate
    2 C. flour
    pinch of salt
    1 C. sour milk
    1 tsp. soda

    Melt chocolate. Beat eggs lightly. Mix ingredients adding eggs
    last.Bake in 2 long flat pans at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Cool
    cakes. Filling

    1 C. pet milk
    1 C. sugar
    1 1/2 C. chopped walnuts(optional)

    Mix ingredients and cook until this enough to spread layers of cake Put cooled cake on plate or bread board. Pour filling on layer and top with other cake.

    Icing

    1 square chocolate
    a little butter
    Powdered sugar
    vanilla
    Milk

    Melt chocolate and butter,add powdered sugar and milk to make spreading consistency,thick enough to frost cake nicely. Add vanilla.
