    My Mother's Amalgamation Cake

    List of Ingredients

am from Tenn. but have lived in Ca. since '66. I thought I would give a try at giving out this recipe. When my Mother wrote this down, well, let's say it's
not in a recipe form! She gave this to me over 35 years ago. I'll try to put some order to it.

CAKE: 2 cups sugar, 1 cup butter, 4 egg whites, 4 cups flour, 2 tsp. soda, 1 pint strawberry jam, 1 1/2 cups buttermilk. Cream butter and sugar, sift flour and soda together, add flour mixture alternatly with buttermilk into
the sugar and butter. Stir in jam. Beat egg whites and fold into mixture. Pour into four 8" greased and floured pans. Bake at 375 degrees. Icing and filling: 1/2
cup butter, 2 cups sugar, 4 egg yokes, 1 cup sweetmilk, 2 FRESH coconuts, 2 cups walnuts, 2 cups raisins, 1 tsp. cloves, 1 tsp. cinnamon. Remove flesh
from coconuts, grind this with the raisins and walnuts in a food chopper. Add all ingredients together and put into a heavy iron skillet and cook until all turns
brown. It will be very thick. Let cool until warm to the touch. You may have to use hands to apply icing to cake. Very Rich!
