    Hershey's Liberty Bell Chocolate Cake

    List of Ingredients

Raise the flag, watch the fireworks and be sure to end this year's Independence Day celebration with a mouth-watering dessert that is fun to make and even more enjoyable to eat - the Liberty Bell Chocolate Cake.

This scrumptious cake, shaped like the Liberty Bell, is sure to look perfect on any Fourth of July picnic table. The cake's rich, chocolatey taste comes from pure, unsweetened cocoa powder. Since cocoa powder blends easily with other baking ingredients, there are no messy pre-melting steps.

Once the cake has baked and cooled, the fun starts for the whole family. Cut the cake into bell shape and decorate with frosting. Kids will love to help create the festive stars and the famous "crack" in the Liberty Bell. Not celebrating at home this year? The Liberty Bell Chocolate Cake is the perfect gift to bring to any festivities you attend.

This Fourth of July, deliver a sweet sparkle to your star-spangled party spread by serving the Liberty Bell Chocolate Cake. It's sure to outshine any fireworks display!

    HERSHEY'S LIBERTY BELL CHOCOLATE CAKE
3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
    1-2/3 cups sugar
    3 eggs
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    2/3 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
    1-1/4 teaspoons baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon baking powder
    1-1/3 cups water
    1 can (12 to 16 oz.) vanilla ready-to-spread frosting
2 tubes (4.25 oz. each) red & royal blue decorating icing (optional)
Heat oven to 350°F. Line 13x9x2-inch baking pan with heavy duty foil; grease and flour sides and bottom of foil.
Combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in large bowl; beat on high speed of mixer 3 minutes. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt and baking powder; add alternately with water to butter mixture, beating until blended. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes; remove from pan to wire rack. Peel off foil; cool completely.
Cut cake in Liberty Bell shape; use 1 small circle piece cut from trimmings as the clapper. Frost top, sides and clapper with vanilla frosting. Outline bell shape and decorate with stars and a "crack" with red and blue decorating icing, if desired. 18 servings.
