    Candied Sweet Potatoes

    "My grandmother and my husband's grandmother both made great candied sweet potatoes. Their recipes were different."


    My grandmother used both what we call extra dark brown sugar (cheap then) or Molasses. In a quart baking dish, fill with sweet potatoes (with fresh sweet potatoes I bake them in their skins for about half hour the day before, put in the refrigerator, and peel and chuck them in the dish). Grandmother only added Dark Karo syrup if they were too dry during cooking (not water). Half to full stick of butter (not margerine) and half to a cup of dark brown sugar. Bake for an hour (350 degrees is what I use).

    My husband's grandmother used half a cup of Maple syrup, and half to a cup of brown sugar
