    Recipe Introduction


    I sometimes add meatballs after the sauce is simmering.


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 tblsp oil
    • 2 chopped onions
    • 2 cloves of garlic minced
    • 1 can diced tomatoes (28 oz)
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/4 cup chopped parsley (optional)
    • 2 bay leaves (or a dash of basil)
    • 1/2 tsp thyme
    • 2 1/2 tsp cayenne
    • 1/4 tsp pepper
    • 1/4 tsp crushed dried red peppers
    • 1 can tomato paste (6 oz)
    • handful of chopped red/green peppers (optional)
    • 1 lb cooked spaghetti (or your favourite pasta)
    • grated parmesan cheese
    • 1 lb lean ground beef


    Instructions


    1. In saucepan, saute the onion and garlic in oil until yellowed.
    2. Add ground beef and brown. (Drain off fat if desired)
    3. Add the can of tomatoes and simmer uncovered 20 mins.
    4. Add water, tomato paste, seasonings and peppers.
    5. Add meatballs if desired and bring to a boil.
    6. Cover and simmer for at least 2 hours.
    7. Serve over cooked pasta and top with grated parmesan.


    Final Comments


    I usually make this a day ahead for best results.
