Hot Beef Cheddar Subs
Source of Recipe
Adapted from a Taste of Home recipe
Recipe Introduction
The meat filling can be made ahead and warmed before assembling the
sandwiches. Could maybe even be frozen ahead of time.
We tried these for supper tonight, and they were quite tasty. Kind of had
the Philly Cheese Steak taste going on. I served with french fries and pork
and beans.
List of Ingredients
4 sub sandwich buns (I used large hamburger buns)
1 # ground beef
1 med green pepper, diced
1 small onion, diced
1 - 10 3/4 oz condensed cheddar cheese soup, undiluted
1/4 tsp worcestershire sauce
4 slices American cheese (I just put 1/2 slice on each sandwich)
Recipe
If using sub buns, cut a thin slice off top of each bun, set tops aside.
Carefully hollow out bottoms, leaving a 1/2" shell. Set aside 1/2 c. bread
crumbs. (Since I used large hamburger buns, I did not hollow out any of the
bread, but did crumble a slice of sandwich bread for later use in the
recipe). In skillet, cook beef, pepper and onion over medium heat until
meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in soup, worcestershire sauce and
reserved bread; mix well. Spoon into buns; top each with a cheese slice.
Replace tops. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake, uncovered, at 350*
for 5-7 min. or until cheese is melted. Yield: 4 servings
