Pizza
Once you've made your own homemade pizza, you'll never look at the pizza shop (or the frozen) variety in the same way ever again. The toppings are limited only by your imagination. So come on, friends: mangia!!!
Dough:
1 package active dry yeast
3/4 cup warm (105º F. -115º F.) water
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. olive oil
2 cups all-purpose flour
Topping:
1 (8-oz.) can tomato sauce
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. dried basil, crumbled
1/2 tsp. dried oregano, crumbled
1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
2 cups (8 oz.) shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in sugar, salt, oil and flour. Process until smooth and elastic.
Spread dough on large round greased pizza pan and stretch to cover.
Combine tomato sauce, onion, garlic, basil, oregano, and pepper to make sauce. Spread sauce over dough. Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan. (Additional toppings may be added, but raw meats should be thoroughly cooked first.)
Bake at 425º F. until cheese is bubbly and crust is brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
Serves 6.
