    Another old recipe from my grandmother.

    List of Ingredients




    1/2 cup shortening
    1 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup unsweetened applesauce
    1 3/4 cup flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
    1/2 teaspoon all spice
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 cup raisins

    SAUCE

    1\2 cup sugar 2 tablespoon corn starch
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    1 cup water
    1 teaspoon lemon rind (optional)
    4 tablespoons lemon juice
    2 tablespoons margarine

    Mix sugar and cornstarch with 1/4 cup water, then add remaining water. Bring to boil and remove from heat. Add remaining ingredients.

    Cream shortening, add sugar and blend. Add egg and applesauce, mix well. Sift dry ingredients together and add to mixture, also add raisins. Pour in greased loaf pans. Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
