    Holiday Snack Mix

    Source of Recipe

    TOH

    List of Ingredients

    Syrup Mixture

    1 cup packed brown sugar
    1 stick butter or margarine
    1/2 cup light corn syrup
    1 tsp vanilla
    1/2 tsp baking soda

    Snack Mixture

    4 cups Rice Chex
    5 cups Corn Chex
    4 cups round pretzels
3/4 to 1 cup whole almonds
    3/4 to 1 cup cashews

Additional Snack Add-Ins for the next day:

    1 large bag Peanut M&Ms
    1 large bag Regular M&Ms
    1 cup chocolate chips
    2 cups white round pretzels

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 250 Combine first Snack mixture in large disposable roaster pan that you have thoroughly greased with Crisco. Mix well and have ready.

    For Syrup:
Combine brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup in heavy saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. As soon as it starts boiling, stop stirring and boil for 5 min. without stirring. Remove from heat and immediately add vanilla and baking soda. It will turn from a brown to a foamy light brown.
Pour syrup over snack mix and mix thoroughly
Bake in 250 degree oven for 1 hour, removing and stirring thoroughly every 15 minutes.
Remove from oven. Stir well. Cover and let cool thoroughly, preferably overnight. In the morning, break into small chunks. In the disposable pan this is easier because you can twist and turn it...she says it's harder in a regular pan.

Add Additional Snack Add-Ins as desired. Store in large covered container, but not plastic baggies, as it tends to take on the flavor of plastic. She used a cake carrier she turned upside down.
