    Applesauce Brownies

    1 cup applesauce
    2 squares bitter chocolate, grated
    1/2 cup shortening
    2 eggs
    1-1/4 cups flour
    1/2 cup nuts
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon soda
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon cloves
    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

    Combine all ingredients and place in a 9x13-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.
