    In 1979 I got a booklet from Jello. This recipe is from that booklet, which is now falling apart.


    Recipe Introduction


    This is the basic recipe. Start with it, vary the pudding and cake mix flavors, then add easy extras for great results.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1 package (2 layer) cake mix
    • 1 package (4 serving) Jello instant pudding
    • 4 eggs
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/4 cup oil


    Instructions


    1. Combine all ingredients in large mixer bowl. Blend, then beat at medium speed of electric mixer for 4 minutes. Pour into greased and floured 13x9 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 40-45 minutes, or until cake springs back when lightly touched. Cool in pan about 15 minutes. Remove from pan and finish cooling on rack.
    2. Alternate baking pans:
      Two 9 inch layers for 30-45 minutes.
      10 inch tube or fluted tube pan for 50-55 minutes.
    3. CHOCOLATE CHIP CAKE - Use chocolate pudding and chocolate cake mix. Stir 1 package (12 ounce) chocolate chips into batter. Sprinkle confectioners sugar on top.
    4. TRIPLE LEMON CAKE- Use lemon pudding, lemon cake mix, 10 inch tube pan. Add 1 teaspoon lemon extract.
    5. SPICE SWIRL CAKE - Use vanilla pudding and yellow cake mix and reduce water to 3/4 cup. Mix 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Pour 2/3 of batter into 10 inch tube pan, sprinkle with sugar mix, then add remaining batter. Zigzag spatula through batter to marble.
