    Irish Soda Bread

    Source of Recipe

    Cousin Judy

    Recipe Introduction

My cousin Judy would always bake and send my dad one of her irish soda breads for St. Patrick's Day. It has since become a family tradition for us to serve this delicious bread at our family St. Patrick's Day celebration dinner.

    List of Ingredients

    3 1/4 cups flour, sifted
    1/4 cup sugar
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. baking soda
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 cup margarine or butter
    1 1/2 cups buttermilk
    1/2 cup raisins

    Recipe

Combine dry ingredients. Cut in butter and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk and raisins. Mix until moisture is absorbed. Turn out onto lightly floured board and knead until smooth & velvety. Shape dough into a round loaf, place in greased round pan. With knife cut a cross on top and bake in 350 degree oven for 50 to 60 minutes. Place knife in center to check if fully cooked. Enjoy!
