    Amish Pot Roast

    Source of Recipe

    Maummi Esh

    Recipe Introduction

I had this Pennsylvania Dutch Pot Roast at a Sunday dinner at the Esh Homestead. The pot roast was so tender and full of flavor. Maummi Esh served along with a buttered noodles, Gravy, and Glazed carrots, sweet peas and home baked bread! It was amazingly delicious! Note; You need a good Dutch Oven to make this recipe!

    List of Ingredients

    4 lbs. Rump Beef Roast
    1 tsp. corn oil
    1 1/4 cup strong coffee
    2 bay leaves
    1 cloves garlic, minced
    1 tsp. oregano
    1 medium onion, diced
    flour
    2 Tbsp. butter
    Dutch Oven

    Recipe

In Dutch Oven on top of the stove, heat the oil. Add your roast and sear on all sides. Once the meat is seared add half the onions, garlic, oregano, bay leaves and strong coffee. Place the remaining onions on top of your roast. Cover the dutch oven and place in preheated 325 degree oven for 5 hours. If you neeed more liquid, add more coffee.

GRAVY: Melt the butter in a saucepan. Gradually add a small amount of flour until you have a rue ( a paste consistency). Slowly add the sauce from the meat. Whisk until smooth. Stir constantly until your gravy is thickened. Season to your taste. After slicing your pot roast, place on a platter and pour a little gravy on top. Serve the remainder of your gravy in gravy boat. Enjoy!
