    Best Macaroni & Cheese

    Source of Recipe

    Aunt Carol

    Recipe Introduction

This is the easiest and tastiest macaroni & cheese recipe I've used. It is a family favorite.

    List of Ingredients

    1 cup uncooked macaroni
    water to cook macaroni in
1 block (8 oz.) medium cheese, grated
    1 1/2 cup whole milk
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 teaspoon salt
    pepper
    margarine

    Recipe

Cook 1 cup macaroni noodles; drain
Grate the 8-oz. block of cheese
Mix the milk and eggs and beat with a whisk. Add salt.

(Do not add pepper to the milk mixture as the pepper will just rise to the top and all the pepper will be on the top of the casserole.)

Spray a casserole dish with Pam. May use a round or square dish.

Put a layer of macaroni in the bottom of the greased casserole dish.
Add half the cheese on top of the macaroni.
Sprinkle a little salt and pepper.
Place slices of margarine on top of this.

Add the rest of the macaroni, the rest of the cheese, a little more salt and pepper and several more slices or dots of margarine. Bury the last margarine slices so they don't just sit on top as this will pop all over the inside of your oven.

Pour the mixture of eggs and milk and salt over the layered mac & cheese being careful to try to wet the whole top of the casserole. This will keep the noodles & cheese from being dry and hard.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees until cheese is golden brown. about 30-45 minutes. Let set on the counter for about 15 minutes before serving to be sure all liquid is absorbed. It may be covered during this time to keep the top from drying out.
