    Cake-Red Velvet Cake

    Recipe Introduction

    This cake is Wonderful! Great for Valentine's Day or anytime.

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 cup shortening
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. pure vanilla
    1 cup buttermilk
    1 tsp. baking soda
    2 tsp. cocoa
    1 & 1/2 cups white sugar
    2 oz. red food coloring
    1 tsp. salt
    2 & 1/2 cup cake flour or White Lilly plain
    1 tsp. Vinegar
    BUTTER ROUX FROSTING
    1 cup milk
    1 cup sugar
    3 Tlbs flour
    1 cup butter
    1.Cook milk and flour until thick, stirring constantly

    Recipe

    1.Mix vinegar and soda in a small cup and set aside
    2.Cream shortening & sugar, then add eggs.
    3.Make a paste of cocoa and a little of the red food coloring
    4.Add to creamed mixture. Add the rest of the food coloring
    5.Add buttlemilk, salt and flour alternately
    6.Add vanilla, and then add well stirred vinegar & soda mixture & mix well
    7.Pour into two 8 inch layer pans. Bake at 350 (preheated) for 30 minutes
    8.Cool thoroughly and split layers in half crosswise, making 4 thin layers
    9.Frost with Roux frosting
    Frosting-
    1.Cook milk and flour until thick, stirring constantly
    2.Remove from heat and cool to below room temp, stirring occasionally
    3.Cream sugar and butter until it is real fluffy
    4.Add flour misture, very slowly, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating well after each addition
    5.Spread frosting between layers and on top.Leave sides unfrosted.
