    Parenting Tool: Kitchen Timer

    Source of Recipe

    recipecircus/cat

    List of Ingredients

Kids hate to be told what to do. So they resist. To stop telling, nagging and arguing, use a kitchen timer.

When you want your child to do something, set the timer. then see if he can "beat the clock." Say, "let's see if you can pick up your toys before the timer goes off."

Or use the timer to enforce a time limit. "You have 15 minutes to get ready for bed."

    * Cat's note: This is a tried-and-true trick. It really does work! Counting off seconds out loud works, too. Example: "You have five seconds to get to the bathroom and brush your teeth." Then start counting: 1...2...3... (you get the idea).
