    Date Loaf Candy

    Source of Recipe

    My mother, Jewel Ashworth

    Recipe Introduction

My mom made this every Christmas. It is soooo good!

    List of Ingredients

    2 Cups Sugar
    ½ Cup Milk
    1 Cup Butter
1 Cup Pitted Dates (½ Pkg) chopped*
    1 Cup Chopped Nuts*
    1 Teaspoon Vanilla

*I use about 2 cups of each

    Recipe

Combine sugar, milk and butter in a saucepan. Boil until a drop forms a hard ball when dribbled into cold water. (260 degrees on a candy thermometer.) Make sure you boil it long enough.

Remove from heat and add dates, nuts and vanilla. (You can use more or fewer dates and add or substitute coconut for nuts.) Place in cold water and beat until cool.

Thoroughly wet a clean white cloth and lay on counter. Pour the candy into a roll shape on the cloth and roll up in the cloth. Let sit overnight in the refrigerator, or until firm and the cloth is dry. Unroll and slice.
