Apple Lady Scones

2 cups sifted unbleached all-purpose flour 1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. granulated sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1 apple, peeled, cored and grated
3/4 cup buttermilk
Cinnamon and sugar mixture (2 tbsp. sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon mixed
together)
Recipe
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Have an ungreased baking sheet ready.
In mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder and sugar. Cut in
shortening. Stir in grated apple. Add buttermilk, mix until soft dough
forms.
Turn dough out onto floured board. Pat into a 6-inch to 7-inch round
disk, sprinkle top with cinnamon and sugar mixture, cut into triangular
or round shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 20
minutes
or until nicely browned. Enjoy with apple jelly or pear jam.
Makes 6 scones.
