    List of Ingredients




    2 lbs. beef for stew, cut into 1" cubes
    2 lg. onions, sliced
    2 T. shortening
    1 c. water
    2 lg. potatoes, thinly sliced
    1 can (10 3/4 oz.) cr. of mushroom soup
    1 c. dairy sour cream
    1 1/4 c. milk
    1 t. salt
    1/4 t. pepper
    1 c. shredded cheddar cheese (4 oz.)
    1 1/4 c. whole wheat flake cereal, crushed

    Cook and stir beef and onions in
    shortening in 10" skillet until beef is
    brown and onions are tender. Add water.
    Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and
    simmer 50 min. Put into ungreased
    13x9x2" baking dish. Arrange potato
    slices on beef mixture. Mix soup, sour
    cream, milk, salt and pepper. Pour evenly
    over potatoes. Sprinkle with cheese and
    cereal. Cook uncovered in 350° oven until
    beef is tender, about 1 1/2 hours. Makes
    8 servings.
