    Cookie Press Cookies

My husband's family makes these every year for Christmas in the shape of trees tinted green. They call them "Puppy Dog Cookies" because other times of the year, my mother-in-law would use the puppy shape disc instead of the tree.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 3 eggs
    • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    • 3 1/2 cup flour
    • 1 tsp. baking soda
    • 2 tsp. cream of tarter

    Instructions

    1. Mix butter, shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla until smooth. Add food coloring here, if desired.
    2. Mix together in another bowl the dry ingredients and then add to butter mixture.
    3. Refrigerate until cool - about 30 minutes.
    4. Work with a small amount at a time, keeping the rest in the refrigerator.
    5. Put desired shape disc in cookie press. Press close together on ungreased cookie sheet.
    6. Sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles.
    7. Bake at 425 degrees for 6-8 minutes - not browned on top at all!
    8. This dough may be frozen, and can easily be doubled.
