    Home-Made Spaghetti Sauce

    Source of Recipe

My own version (revised from a recipe I received from a friend)

    List of Ingredients

3/4 lbs. lean ground beef (optional)
    2 Tblsp. olive oil
    1/2 cup minced onion
4 cloves garlic, crushed, chopped fine
1 28-oz. can crushed tomatoes (or quart size freezer bag of home-grown tomato puree) * (see note below)
    1 large can tomato paste
    1 cup water
    1 Tblsp. sugar
    2 tsp. dried basil leaves
    1 tsp. dried oregano
    1 Tblsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper

    Recipe

    Brown ground beef and drain.

If you would rather do marinara sauce,... omit ground beef.

In a large saucepan, saute onions and garlic in olive oil. Add drained ground beef. Stir in remaining ingredients and let simmer for 1-3 hours.

    *NOTE*:

I like to utilize the fresh tomatoes from our garden, so I freeze them for use year round.

To do this, I heat water in a large pot, and bring it to a boil. Carefully drop whole tomatoes in until pot is full. Boil for about 2-3 minutes and remove to a large bowl. Allow to cool until you can touch, and remove skins (they should pop right off). Take the skinless tomatoes and puree in a blender. Freeze in quart size freezer bags.
