GETTING RID OF THE TINNY TASTE

whether it's because we are pressed for time or a particular food we want to use in a recipe is not available in any other form, we often use canned and/or frozen products in our cooking. Here is a tip to get rid of both the tinny and the frozen tastes.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1/4 t. Granulated white sugar.

    Instructions

    1. That's it! Only this one ingredient wil freshen the flavor of any canned or frozen foods. And don't worry about the calories from this small an amount.
    2. For canned foods other than soups, creamed corn, pasta entrees, and the like: Empty the can into a sieve, rinse the contents under cold filtered water until the "canned" smell is gone, drain, then cook in filtered water to which the 1/4 teaspoon of sugar has been added. If microwaving, after rinsing and draining just pour the food into a microwave-safe dish, sprinkle with the sugar, and cover lightly while cooking at medium power.
    3. For frozen foods, again rinse briefly under cold filtered water, drain and cook as directed in step 2.
    4. For the canned products excluded in step 2, pour the can's contents into the desired cooking utensil, stir in the sugar, and heat according to directions.

    Final Comments

We have had many guests remark at the time we must have spent to scratch prepare food that we simply took out of a can. We never tell them otherwise. Now you can sneakally do the same.Whatever you do, do not use a product containing MSG to get rid of canned/frozen taste. While it does work, it is not any where as easy or safe as sugar.
