Distress and Bleach Denim
Cover work area with plastic, an old shower curtain works well. Pour a small amount of bleach in a glass bowl. Soak grinder stone in bleach – the longer the stone soaks the more bleach it will absorb. You can also dip the drill in the bleach and run the stone in bleach for 1 minute to load with bleach. Remove stone from bleach and use a paper towel to catch any drips. Place the stone to the fabric and turn drill on. Very little pressure is needed. There is very little spray or splatter when drilling. Reload the stone with bleach as needed. The bleaching doesn’t always appear immediately. When you’ve finished let the clothing dry completely and then wash. Letting the denim dry before washing prevents bleach from smearing or running.
Tips: Darker denim will produce greater contrast. Be careful not to catch loose strings with the drill. Practice first to get a feel for how the drill moves and how much bleach is needed.
Ideas for bleaching

· Use the tip of a tree shaped stone to make a monogram or write a word or name on jeans
· Use the side of a flat round grinder to bleach the outside seams
· Use the base of a flat round stone to make circles.
