A Texan's Kidney Bean Soup

Recipe Introduction
Double all ingredients except for the ground beef.
List of Ingredients
1 c. dried red kidney beans, soaked overnight and drained
1 lg. potato, cubed
2 c. cooked tomatoes (substitute 1 can of whole tomatoes)
1 lb. ground beef
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 to 2 T. chili powder
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 c. water
Recipe
Cover beans with salted water; simmer until tender. Add potato and tomatoes; simmer until done. Brown meat and onion; add remaining ingredients except cabbage. Combine meat mixture and beans; add enough water to make 4 qts. of soup. Simmer until all ingredients are tender.
Makes about 12 servings.
