List of Ingredients
2/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups water
2 cups homemade crme frache (recipe follows) or two 8-ounce store-bought containers
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
Selection of raspberries and blueberries
Crme Frache
2 cups heavy cream
1/3 cup sour cream (do not use nonfat)
Recipe
Prepare crme frache:
1. Combine ingredients in a small bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and place on a counter for at least 24 hours, stirring mixture occasionally. When mixture is thick, place in an airtight container and refrigerate. It will keep at least 2 weeks. Makes about 2 cups.
Prepare sorbet:
2. In a medium-size heavy saucepan, bring the sugar and water to a boil, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes. Cook 1 more minute. Pour syrup into a heat-proof bowl and chill until completely cold, about 1 hour. Remove bowl from refrigerator and whisk in crme frache, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Transfer to an ice cream maker and process according to manufacturer's instructions.
Scoop into bowls and serve with berries.
Making your own crme frache is simple and inexpensive; plan ahead, as it takes between 24 and 36 hours.
