• Vegetable Oil
  
• 1 1/2 cups stone ground cornmeal
  
• 1/2 cup flour
  
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
  
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
  
• 1 egg
  
• 3/4 cup milk
  
• 1 small onion, grated
  






Instructions



1. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 375 degrees, or until a 1" cube of bread turns golden brown in 50 seconds.
   
   
2. In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients. In a small bowl, combine egg, milk and onion; add to cornmeal mixture.
   
   
3. Drop batter from a spoon into hot oil. Fry about 1 minute, or until crisp and golden. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper toweling; serve hot.
   
   
4. Yield: about 20 puppies.
