    Cake: Mother's Best Fudge Cake

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 slightly beaten egg
    • 2/3 cup sugar
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 3 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 cups sifted cake flour
    • 1 teaspooon baking soda
    • 1 cup milk
    • Chocolate Frosting


    Instructions


    1. In saucepan combine 1 beaten egg, 2/3 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk, and chocolate. Cook and stir over medium heat until chocolate melts and mixture comes just to boiling. Cool.

    2. Gradually add 1 cup sugar to shortening, creaming until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Add 2 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.

    3. Sift together flour, baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with 1 cup milk, beating after each addition. Blend in cooled chocolate mixture.

    4. Bake in 2 greased and floured 9 x 1 1/2 inch round pans at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool.

    5. Frost and fill with your favorite Chocolate Frosting. Decorate with chocolate curls, if desired.
