    Winter Dried Apple Cobbler

    Source of Recipe

    Martha White

    List of Ingredients

    • 3 cups water
    • 1 1/2 cups sugar
    • 1/4 cup lemon juice
    • 1 2/3 cups Martha White Self-Rising Flour
    • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 2 (6 ounce) packages dried apples
    • Topping:
    • 1 tablespoon milk
    • 2 tablespoons sugar

    Instructions

    1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13x9 inch (3 quart) glass baking dish. In medium saucepan, combine water and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Heat over medium heat until sugar dissolves, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; add lemon juice. Set aside.
    2. Place flour in large bowl. With pastry blender or fork, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 1/2 cup milk; stir with fork just until mixture pulls away from sides of bowl.
    3. On floured surface, knead dough just until smooth. Roll out dough to form 12 inch square. Cut dough into 8 strips. Place 3 strips lengthwise in bottom of greased baking dish. Sprinkle apples evenly over dough. Place remaining strips of dough lengthwise over apples.
    4. Pour sugar syrup carefully between strips of dough. Brush dough with 1 tablespoon milk; sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or cool.
    5. Yield: 12 servings
