    Beef: Country Fried Steak With Gravy

    List of Ingredients


    • 5 tablespoons flour, divided
    • 1/4 cup corn meal
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
    • 4 cube steaks (1 pound)
    • 1 egg white
    • 1 teaspoon water
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
    • Gravy:
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 2 tablespoons flour
    • 1 1/2 cups milk
    • 1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
    • 1/8 teaspoon pepper


    Instructions


    1. In a bowl, combine 3 tablespoons flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper; set aside. Place remaining flour in a large zipLoc bag, add the steaks and shake until covered. Beat egg white and water; dip steaks in egg mixture, then the cornmeal mixture.

    2. In a cast iron skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium high heat. Cook steaks for 5 to 7 minutes on each side until crisp. Remove and keep warm.

    3. Gravy: Melt butter, stir in flour till smooth. Gradually add the milk; bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil 2 minutes stirring constantly, reduce the heat. Add the bouillon, marjoram, thyme, and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 4 to 5 minutes.
